Projects & Activities

Four activity areas, one autonomy roadmap.

Each activity area targets a distinct layer of the autonomy challenge across land, sea and air — coordinated under one cluster strategy that turns research into deployable systems.

Focus area

Cluster Coordination & Strategy

The backbone of MMILE — aligning partners, governance, and shared roadmaps. WP1 coordinates funding, knowledge transfer, and the strategic direction that ties every work package together.

  • Programme governance
  • Partner onboarding
  • Roadmap & funding

Activity area

Autonomous Vehicles

R&D for autonomous vehicles across sea, land and air — perception, navigation, and remote operation. We develop and validate self-navigating platforms for safe, efficient operation in real-world conditions.

  • Sensor fusion & perception
  • Remote operation centres
  • Real-world trial validation

Brownfield Terminal Automation

Retrofitting and automating existing port terminals. WP3 brings autonomy to brownfield infrastructure — upgrading cranes, yards, and logistics without rebuilding from scratch.

  • Crane & yard automation
  • Legacy system integration
  • Throughput optimisation
Activity area

Safety, Assurance & Regulation

Building the safety case for autonomy across land, sea and air. WP4 develops assurance methods, certification pathways, and the regulatory groundwork that lets autonomous systems operate in the real world.

  • Safety-case engineering
  • Certification pathways
  • Risk & compliance
Activity area

Data, AI & Simulation

The digital foundation of the cluster. WP5 builds shared data platforms, AI models, and high-fidelity simulation — including digital twins that let partners test autonomy long before it reaches the field.

  • Shared data platforms
  • AI model development
  • Digital-twin simulation
NAR

Nordic Aviation Resilience-project

R&D for resilient autonomous airport operations — GNSS-free localisation, sensor fusion, secure connectivity, and remote-controlled maintenance. We develop and validate autonomous ground-operation solutions to ensure safe, continuous, and reliable performance under real-world and disrupted conditions.

  • GNSS-free localisation & sensor fusion
  • Autonomous maintenance & snow-clearing operations
  • Real-world pilot & resilience validation
How we work

From idea to impact in three moves.

01

Define

Partners align on a shared challenge and the autonomy capability needed to solve it across land, sea or air.

02

Develop & validate

Technology is built and stress-tested in controlled settings, then validated through real-world trials.

03

Deploy

Proven systems move into operation with operators and ports, closing the gap from idea to impact.
