About Mmile

One cluster, a shared horizon.

MMILE was established because mobility and logistics challenges cannot be solved by single actors alone - growing demand for automated services, fragmented systems, changing purchasing patterns, increased requirements for societal security and preparedness, the need for faster green transformation, and the need for more trust between actors to unlock the potential of integrated systems.

Today, strong transport environments exist in separate sectors, but MMILE addresses the need for a multimodal arena where actors can work across road, sea and air. MMILE is a neutral facilitator and initiator. Its purpose is to serve the members’ shared goal: well-functioning, safe and sustainable mobility and transport solutions.

We help members move from pilots and isolated solutions towards scalable, trusted and commercially relevant systems — with a strong focus on multimodal transport, remote operations, green logistics, maritime autonomy, urban mobility and Nordic cooperation.

Our Vision

MMILE connects every mile – seamlessly and sustainably.

Our Mission

MMILE brings together a fragmented ecosystem to create robust, safe and sustainable mobility systems that strengthen the green transition, societal security and international competitiveness.

Activities

six activity areas, one roadmap.

Each activity area targets a distinct layer of the autonomy challenge across land, sea and air — coordinated under one cluster strategy.

Remote Operations

MMILE supports members working with remote-controlled, autonomous and semi-autonomous operations across maritime, airside, logistics and other transport environments.

  • Mapping shared challenges
  • Developing project portfolios
  • Exploring solution integration
  • Connecting technology providers, operators, researchers and regulatory interfaces
  • Sharing operational learning from companies already working with remote and autonomous systems

Multimodal Transport

Transport affects several modes, both for freight and urban mobility. MMILE addresses fragmented systems and works to help different systems communicate and function as a whole. The cluster focuses on bringing together the stakeholders needed to develop and implement multimodal transport solutions. This includes integration of energy systems, as electrification of vehicles and vessels requires coordinated access to charging infrastructure and energy supply.

Acceptance of Innovative Solutions

Technological development often moves faster than implementation in industry. Uncertainty among decision-makers, operators, regulators and the workforce can delay adoption, even when solutions are technically viable. MMILE works to build understanding and trust for automated systems, support behavioural change and decision processes, de-risk regulatory aspects and support adaptation of operational practices and job roles.

Activity area

Invest IN

Access to risk capital is described in the submitted application as a barrier to scaling. MMILE will connect Norwegian growth companies to investor markets, using its Finnish connection to strengthen access to arenas such as SLUSH Helsinki and other investor environments. The cluster’s goal is to reduce the gap between innovation and investment and support integrated solutions moving into the market.

Activity area

Competence

MMILE members have different levels of maturity in collaboration and value-chain development. MMILE will provide a credible facilitation arena and bring in methodology related to innovation, support schemes, regulations, standards and guidelines. The goal is to increase understanding of the broader value chain and strengthen members’ development and commercialisation capability.

Activity area

Market

MMILE will support coordinated profiling, visibility, market safaris and connections to European mobility and transport environments. The goal is to increase knowledge and recognition of automated solutions among relevant target groups and strengthen awareness of Norwegian companies’ competitive advantages.
